FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Croton Falls, NY): The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus issued this brief statement in response to the horrific mass shooting that took place Sunday night at a country music festival in Las Vegas where at least 58 people were killed and hundreds injured.
“At this writing, Nevada law enforcement officials have confirmed that at least 58 people were killed by a lone gunman in Las Vegas, Nevada late Sunday evening. In addition to those who were killed, several hundred people were also injured, making this horrific shooting the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
While the facts about the shooter and this incident continue to come in, The Campaign mourns the loss of life of so many innocent people in Las Vegas and we extend our hand to the people in Nevada during this most difficult time. We cannot continue to allow easy access to weapons of war in our country because we know all too well what the devastating results will be. We honor the lives lost today with our unwavering commitment to protect all communities from gun violence.”
The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus was founded in 2008 to urge colleges and universities to band together to oppose the gun lobby’s agenda to push loaded, concealed guns onto college campuses. To date, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and more than 420 colleges and universities in 42 states have joined the Campaign.
