FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Croton Falls, NY: The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus released the following statement on the heels of the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Betsy DeVos for U.S. Secretary of Education. Over the last few days, members of The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus drove several thousand calls and emails into Senate offices urging opposition to DeVos’ nomination.
STATEMENT FROM THE CAMPAIGN TO KEEP GUNS OFF CAMPUS
Earlier today, Vice-President Pence was forced to break a 50-50 tie in the Senate in order to approve Betsy DeVos as the next Secretary of Education. We are greatly concerned about the safety of our public K-12 and higher education communites across the country under an Education Department headed by someone who refused to take a stand against allowing guns in schools and on campuses, stating that the decision should be left to individual states. In addition, DeVos refused to take a stand on upholding the 2011 guidelines on how colleges and universities handle sexual assault on campuses, including preventative measures.
