From the Executive Director

Hello and welcome to our August Newsletter:

July was one of the busiest summer months we have seen in a long time with much happening on the Federal level, as we have previously reported.

On July 11th, Campaign Board member Dina Siciliano and I were invited to The White House to commemorate the signing of the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act”. We joined nearly 2,000 other survivors, family members, officials and advocates, as we heard from President Biden, Vice President Harris, Dr. Roy Guerrero from Uvalde, TX, and Garnell Whitfield, Jr., whose mother was killed at the TOPS Supermarket in Buffalo. While the day marking the signing of the bill was momentous, we still have much work to do both legislatively and culturally to reduce gun violence in our country.

To that end, we continue to work with our colleagues to push the U.S. Senate to pass the Federal Ban On Assault Weapons and High-Capacity Magazines, along with Ethan’s Law – requiring Safe Gun Storage. Both of these measures have already passed the House. Please take action below to help create more pressure to pass them in the Senate.

In Georgia, our community outreach efforts were in full-swing as we continue to spread the word (virtually and in person) about the necessity of locking up guns in the home. Read more about our efforts below.

Don’t forget – we are gearing up for our Fall Benefit on October 21st at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. We hope to see as many folks from the tri-state area there.

Finally, thank you for taking actions when we ask and for supporting The Campaign with your gifts. Your generous donations throughout the year make a huge difference and allow this work to continue, touching even more lives.

Please consider going the next mile by making a donation to The Campaign today.

Thanks for all you do!

Andy Pelosi, Executive Director/Co-Founder

Georgia

Campaign Program Director, Kathryn Grant, reports SAFE To Thrive has been participating in several events, most recently in Valdosta and Albany, with other community organizations (including Black Voters Matter) to help promote safe gun storage practices to protect families and children. Planning is in the works for more training workshops through the end of the year with foster care and kinship care providers.
