Hello and welcome to our March Newsletter:
Much is happening on the legislative front, as The Campaign is fighting campus bills in a number of states (more below). Unfortunately, after working for nearly 6 weeks with a courageous group of students and faculty, Gov. Justice signed guns on campus legislation in West Virginia. We were very disappointed with the result, especially since we worked with stakeholders back in 2019 to successfully defeat a similar bill. You can read our press statement below.
While dealing with the West Virginia defeat, we are simutaneously hard at work opposing guns on campus bills in the following states: Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, New York, Tennessee, and Wyoming. If you live in one of these states, please take the appropriate action below to stop these bills.
The Campaign is also supporting our colleagues in Florida to oppose legislation that would eliminate the need for a permit to carry a concealed handgun in public. 25 states have already eliminated this type of permit and Florida could be next. Plans are under way for a major protest in St. Petersburg on March 16th in which The Campaign is helping organize.
On the Federal level, we continue to organize in support of the Federal Ban on Assault Weapons and High-Capacity Magazines, along with Ethan’s Law – requiring safe gun storage. You can take action below.
This month we will mark Women’s History Month on social media. Look for our posts in the middle of the month.
Finally, become a “Campaigner” – a monthly, sustaining member of The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus. We can’t fight on so many fronts without your support. Pledge a monthly gift today to keep The Campaign strong.
Thanks for all you do!
