FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(Croton Falls, NY) – As state legislatures begin convening their 2016 sessions, campus carry bills have already been introduced or are moving in the following states around the country:  Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee.

The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus issued the following statement in response to early introduction of campus carry bills around the country:

“Following up on a combative 2015 legislative season where guns on campus bills were introduced in 15 states (defeated in 13 states, signed in Texas and carried over in Ohio), the gun lobby is once again aggressively pushing their agenda in 2016 to force America’s public colleges to allow the carrying of loaded, concealed guns on campus.  The centerpiece of the gun lobby’s agenda is Florida, where earlier in 2015, campus carry legislation failed to gain final passage.  Gun lobby backed members of Florida’s legislature renewed campus carry legislation this past Fall, and in a flurry of committee hearings, advanced HB 4001 to the House floor where it could voted on as early as this week.

In addition to Florida, campus carry bills are back again in the following states:

*Arizona (previously vetoed in 2011)

* Georgia (failed to move in last several legislative sessions)

* Indiana (failed to move during 2015 legislature)

* Michigan (previously vetoed in 2012 and currently moving in the Senate)

* Missouri (previously defeated during 2009 legislature)

* Ohio (passed the House in 2015 and active in Senate)

* Tennessee (failed to move during 2015 legislature)

The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus and its allies are working around the country to counter the gun lobby and to help rally a broad coaltion of college administrators, faculty, students, campus law enforcement officials, parents and community groups in opposition to any policy changes that would change current state laws that would force colleges to allow loaded concealed guns on campus”
