HB 4001 (guns on campus) has passed through all House Committees and is now eligible for passage by the full House.   We need you to contact your respective Housemember and tell them to vote NO on HB 4001.

HB 4001 (and its Senate companion – SB 68) will force Florida’s public colleges and universities to allow the carrying of loaded, concealed handguns anywhere on campus. This legislation poses a significant public safety risk to Florida’s campus communities AND fail to address the inevitable and substantial economic impact on tuition fees and other costs should this wrongheaded policy be implemented.

Despite strong opposition from students, faculty, campus law enforcement, mental health professionals, parents, the Board of Trustees, all presidents within the state university system, and the Association of Florida Colleges — this bill will continue to advance, unless we raise our voices now!

We can defeat these bills again, but need you to take action TODAY. Use this page to send a message to the Housemember today telling them to keep guns off Florida’s college campuses. If you can put the message into your own words, it will be even more powerful. Thank you.

There is a lot at stake. HB 4001/SB 68 will force Florida’s public colleges and universities to allow the carrying of loaded, concealed handguns – anywhere – on campus.  Some of the fall out from this wrongheaded policy will be the increased risk of gun-related fatalities as a result of unintentional shootings or suicide, or how guns could negatively impact the unique learning, living and working campus environment.

The vast majority of Florida’s students and faculty don’t want guns in their classrooms or other buildings on campus. We can defeat HB 4001 / AB 68, but we need your help to fight the powerful and well-resourced Florida gun lobby.

Please take action today and contact your Housemember today.

Thank you.
