Floridians – Tell Gov. Scott & State Legislators that you oppose guns on college campuses
Rep. Greg Steube, (R) Sarasota, has introduced legislation (HB4005/SB176) that will force Florida’s public university and community colleges to allow the carrying of loaded, concealed guns anywhere on campus.
The bill will be heard in committee (House, Criminal Justice Subcommittee) on Tuesday, January 20th at 4pm and we need you to lend your voice in opposition to this outrageous bill.
The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus will deliver the petition to Gov. Scott and our state legislators with this message: “Say no to guns on Florida’s college campuses”.
Currently, concealed carry permit holders are able to store their handguns in locked cars on campus parking lots. However, Florida law provides the Board of Trustees at public university and community colleges the authority to place reasonable restrictions on access to firearms on college-owned or controlled buildings and grounds (excluding parking lots).
Florida’s higher education officials are most qualified to determine the safety requirements for their campuses, including restricting guns only to certified law enforcement officers.
Please sign this petition to help preserve the safety of Florida’s public university and community college campuses. Your opposition to this legislation will be sent to Gov. Scott and your state representatives.
